Whether you are going to the coast for the weekend or a day’s sailing at your local boating lake, knowing the relevant towing law and feeling confident in manouvering your boat trailer will take the stress out of the journey.

Towing a boat has its own particular requirements! It is important to be aware of certain legalities that are only applicable to boat towing. For example, most American boats imported into the UK come with a free trailer which seems like a bonus at first. However, for a number of reasons, they are illegal to use in the UK.

Boats have propellers that stick out beyond the trailer and masts that need extra attention when navigating low bridges, trees or even the roof of the towing vehicle on sharp inclines.

Our job is to make you aware of these issues and ensure you leave the training feeling confident, competent and ready to take your boat to whatever waters you want to sail.

Our instructors are experienced in delivering hands-on, practical training and they will give you the tools and confidence for stress free towing and manoeuvring.

Designed For

All boat trailer users – whether you are new to towing and need to learn the practical and legal aspects related to this area or whether you already have the towing experience, but want to refresh your skills or target certain areas such as reversing.
This half day course includes off-road exercises as well as on-road towing training. Delivered on a one-to-one basis, AM or PM sessions available.

Our training is designed to suit your needs and while we provide a structured course for you to follow, if you need to focus on a particular area we are happy to factor these requirements into your training.

Summary

This is a hands-on, practical driving course which you can undertake using your own boat trailer and car. If you don’t have a trailer yet or want some experience of towing before you take the plunge, Towing Solutions has a trailer for you to use as well as a vehicle for you to hire if required.

4 hour course for 1 person – £186 using your own car and our trailer or £222 using our car and trailer

5 hour course for 2 people – £330 using your own car and our trailer or £374 using our car and trailer

On Completion

After completing your Boat Towing Course, you’ll receive an email with your Certificate of Attendance and an e-copy document that includes key details from your training session — plus some bonus top tips to help you enjoy safe, confident driving and manoeuvring.
