EV & Hybrid – Towing & Trailer Safety – Electric Vehicle Qualifications
With the increase in electric and hybrid vehicle usage across fleets, this course provides essential training for safe, efficient, and compliant operation when towing with EVs. Delegates will gain confidence in handling electric vehicles, understanding their unique safety requirements, and performing towing manoeuvres correctly and legally. The course is written by instructors with Electric Vehicle Qualifications.

Fleet drivers, operatives, technicians, and anyone who tows trailers or operates electric and hybrid vehicles in their role. This includes:

Summary
This full-day IMI course offers a practical and engaging introduction to towing with electric and hybrid vehicles. Delegates will explore the key components of EV and hybrid systems, gaining essential knowledge around high-voltage safety, isolation procedures, and correct use of PPE.
The course also covers thorough pre-use inspections of both vehicle and trailer, before moving on to hands-on towing manoeuvres and real-world driving experience. Throughout the day, attendees will learn how towing affects EV performance — including range, regenerative braking and stability — and develop practical risk management strategies.
Delivered by IMI-approved instructors, the training combines demonstrations, tutor-led discussions and active participation to build confidence and competence when operating EV vehicles and trailers safely and legally.
Trailers are provided unless you wish to use your own. Maximum of 3 delegates per full-day course to ensure meaningful time on-road in real driving environments.
Training can be delivered at our IMI-approved centre or at your premises (subject to suitability and travel costs).
On Completion
On successful completion of this course, delegates will receive an IMI-recognised Certificate of Completion, issued by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
This certification demonstrates that you have completed industry-approved training in EV and Hybrid Vehicle operation and safety, delivered by an IMI Approved Centre.
